About

We build tools that rescue memories, not just data

Heirvo is a small, independent Windows software company. Our focus is optical disc recovery — specifically the scratched, degraded, and unreadable DVDs and CDs that hold irreplaceable home video, family photos, and personal archives.

Why we built this

Heirvo began with a personal discovery: recordings kept on discs for 20 years would no longer play on a computer. Its maker hadn’t realised those discs could deteriorate over time. What started as an effort to recover those recordings became a project to help others preserve their own.

Different recovery tools offer different workflows. Heirvo focuses on helping someone with personal recordings take a careful next step, understand what can be read, and check a preview in plain language.

Heirvo is built around a simple premise: let someone scan and preview readable content before paying to save, explain progress clearly, and be honest when a recording is incomplete or cannot be recovered.

How our recovery engine works

Heirvo makes multiple attempts to read difficult areas of a disc and records its progress locally. A recovery can be paused and resumed with the same disc. The result depends on the recording, the disc’s condition and the drive reading it; a complete recovery is not guaranteed.

When readable video can be prepared, the in-app preview helps you inspect the result. Check the beginning, middle and end, including the sound. A disc may yield a complete recording, a partial recording, or no usable result. Software cannot recreate physically destroyed data.

Heirvo focuses on doing as much as possible on the customer’s own Windows computer. Recovery progress is saved locally, recovered files stay local, and the app explains what happened in plain language.

Who writes the guides

The recovery guides on this site are maintained by Heirvo. They explain disc recovery and preservation in plain language. Compatibility and recovery results vary by disc and drive; the download page identifies the current release and checks still in progress.

Guides distinguish product workflows, general preservation advice and published technical sources. Our testing notes explain the reference-disc checks and the limits of that evidence.

What we believe

Keep useful partial progress

An unreadable area should not discard other data that could be read. Recovery may be complete, partial or unsuccessful.

Preview before paying to save

Scan your own supported disc and inspect readable content in the app before deciding whether a saving license is useful to you.

No technical jargon in the UI

Nobody outside a lab needs to know what UDF, VOB, or sector LBA means. We translate everything into plain English.

Media processing stays local

Recovery and speech processing run on your Windows PC. Activation and occasional license checks use the internet; valid cached licensing supports offline use.
